Australia Sailing Yacht Charters

Australia’s Whitsunday Islands are a spectacular area to sail whether in a traditional monohull sailing yachts(take advantage of the brisk breezes) or in a sailing catamaran that will allow you to pull right up to the reef in shallow water so clear that you can count the fish. Traveling down under, you encounter the Aussie fervor for sailing – a very popular national pastime. Let the crew show you their sailing ability and their relaxed friendly nature; it’ll make you sorry to leave for home.

Just off the northeast coast of Australia lies a magical tropical paradise: the world’s largest coral reef. The Great Barrier Reef is in fact a labyrinth of reefs and islands that extends for more than 2,000 kilometres (1, 250 miles) and it is largely made up of the living coral. The Great Barrier Reef’s stunning scenery, flora and fauna make it a fabulous holiday destination, and because it is greater than the land mass of Great Britain and half the size of Texas, you can always find a new spot to explore! Many people have fought to ensure the safety of this vast yet fragile ecosystem so its unique beauty remains today.

Among the thousands of individual reefs and hundreds of islands large and small, lives marine life galore: not only coral, but swarms of fish, clams, sea stars, anemones and more. You can see dolphins, birds, koalas, even a rare tree kangaroo. You may spot humpback whales migrating with their calves to Antarctica, or turtles laying their eggs in the summer. Sailing catamarans are a great way to anchor close to all the underwater action! The flora is diverse as well, with habitats ranging from deserted island to dense rainforest. A number of the islands have resorts on them to suit a range of tastes and budgets but most are uninhabited; perfect when you want one to yourself! More than 1000 shipwrecks around the Reef also make for some fascinating sites to explore. When you take to the water, you will find most conveniently, that because coral needs warm, clear water, perfect swimming and visibility are found in the same places as the best coral. Some parts of the Reef are close to shore, others further out. Some of the most amazing underwater marvels are to be found off the outer reefs, accessible only by charter boat. Diving is fantastic but you can also reach some lovely spots just by swimming and snorkeling. More serious divers or those who prefer something more exclusive could head to islands such as Lizard Island, Bedarra, Orpheus, Hayman, Hook, Heron or Lady Elliot. For a more social or family holiday, consider Fitzroy, Dunk, Hinchinbrook, Daydream or Great Keppel.  Choices abound for your Australian sailing adventure!
