MEXICO SAILYACHT CHARTERS & VACATIONS
The Baja coast is home to a number of sailing yachts and catamarans that base in this sheltered area year round. Fabulous underwater life for scuba divers and terrific fishing as well, the arid climate almost guarantees you days of sailing in the sunshine. This coast is dotted with well built marinas perfect for a short stop or overnight to sample local cuisine. Generally light winds provide comfortable sailing on any monohull or catamaran as the seas remain flat and calm inside the Sea of Cortez.
Many sailing yachts are based in the Sea of Cortez year round. Catamarans are becoming an increasing part of the yacht charter fleet and come with new modern layout and equipment. Traditional monohulls will sail the entire West Coast of the Americas, and be available during part of the winter months for those that want some heavy duty sailing opportunities.
Mexico has developed a number of government-built marinas along the coast but there are a number of small towns and harbors with villages where you will anchor off the beach, taking the tender ashore. This lets you have peace and quiet when you want, or dancing in the evening after dinner under a moonlit sky.
On the East Coast, yachts travel through Central America and can make stops in Mexico, but keep in mind that there are local restrictions on who may charter in Mexico so that not every yacht visiting the area will find it possible to charter. This part of Mexico is an easy hop from Texas or California, making it ideal for a last minute sailing charter.
Sailing charters are available with crew, or Captain only, on the east coast of Mexico but most especially the west coast. Whether you are looking for a sailing ketch or schooner, or maybe a more modern catamaran for your family vacation, Mexico is a great winter time destination. Larger Mega yachts sail Mexican waters during the winter as well, although their itineraries and available dates might be more restricted.
