Spain Balearic Sailing Yacht Charter

SPAIN & BALERIC POWER YACHT CHARTERS & CHARTER VACATIONS

Spain is developing more marinas along her coast, like Valencia with the introduction of America’s Cup sailing in 2007. As you might expect from Spain’s historical ties to the sea, sailing yachts have found this area a wonderful place to base and it provides an easy jumping off spot for the nearby Balearic Islands. The Balearic Islands lie 100 nautical miles off the coast. Ibiza, Mallorca and Minorca have long been popular winter & summer tourist destinations, but are best enjoyed from the deck of a yacht.

Charter a sleek styled monohull, easy to enjoy the open deck space and trim sails powering along the islands with comfortable cabin spaces and modern amenities below.  These trim cutters, ketches and sloops range in size from 65 to 120 feet (20 to 40m).

Larger motorsailors are also available and are popular for larger groups or for those that wish more stability in their sailing experience. There are few catamarans operating for charter in Spain.

Similar to the situation with power yachts, Spain’s high VAT (18.6%) has held back from the purchasing of new yachts to be flagged Spanish. This means some of the best options are older, but very well maintained, sailing yachts that are based in Spain year round.

For larger sailing yachts (and budgets), it can be possible to charter an EU flagged yacht and begin your charter in France, traveling into Spain. This is a very good option for larger yachts, which can cover longer distances in shorter time, and a great option to see more of the Mediterranean if you have longer than a week for your holiday.

Sailing charters in Spain work well with a ten to fourteen night trip. It allows you to take into consideration changing weather conditions, and to see the different areas without feeling rushed.

Keep in mind that the pace in Spain is slow-paced and laidback, with time for the main meal in the middle of the day, a siesta, afternoon sail and a smaller supper late in the evening after the summer sun has slid below the horizon.

Chartering a sailing yacht in Spain is a wonderful choice for a relaxed casual holiday on the water.
