Spain is developing more marinas along her coast, like Valencia with the introduction of America’s Cup sailing in 2007. A number of large mega yachts have found this area a wonderful place to base and provides an easy jumping off spot for the nearby Balearic Islands. Because Spain has such a high VAT rate (18.6%), there are fewer new, super yachts based in Spain and available for charter. Large commercial yachts over 200′ often travel to Spain and are available for charter during some part of the summer months, especially early or late in the season, as so many yachts choose to winter in sunny Spain.
Power yachts from France may bring guests into Spain while on charter (VAT on charter rate due),but they may not start and end a charter within the country.
Spanish shipyards have recently begun building large megayachts that are well suited to the charter business. These full displacement yachts are new, well thought out and have full amenities.
A power yacht charter allows a guest to linger over a late afternoon swim before heading into town for a night on the town. These motor yachts also have space for more crew, allowing you the luxury of having a nanny for the children, or perhaps a masseuse for frequent treatments.
