GREECE SAILING BOATS YACHT CHARTER VACATIONS

The history & culture of Greece has lured travelers for thousands of years. The beautiful sailing waters between these islands and friendly people have kept our charter clients returning frequently. The Greek islands are spread over hundreds of miles; during your sailing charter you will focus on a smaller group of islands easily achievable during your one to two week trip. Large luxury monohulls and lovely local sailing gullets are available spring through fall with Greek crew that know their history and are willing to share the story of these wonderful places.

The largest challenge to chartering a sailing yacht in the Greek Islands is that the distance and sheer number of islands are so great that a week’s charter will leave you wanting more. Many yachts will depart from a variety of marinas near Athens and the airport that lies quite a distance outside the city itself.  Departing from Athens will allow a wide range of sailing itineraries, from the Saronic Gulf to the Peloponnese.

Unfortunately, traveling the Ionian islands or Cyclades is hard to do on a small (45 to 65′) sailing yacht in just a 7 night charter. However, many yachts will reposition for a fee to Mykonos, Kos, or Crete so that you can sail to these delightful places. This also makes life much easier in July and August, since one can encounter the fierce meltemi winds that can blow without warning under a clear blue sky.

Larger sailing megayachts are often based in the Greek Islands as well as numerous motorsailors that will be able to travel to the well known and hidden jewels to be found in Greece. Whether you wish to take the helm for hours at a time and trim the sails just so, or just relax on deck watching the water slip by, these crewed sailing yachts will exceed expectations.

With plenty of deep water anchorages and secure harbors along these rocky islands, a sailing vacation is the best way to experience the small town feel of Greece. Even though visitors have been traveling for centuries, Greeks are still open, friendly and helpful and very knowledgeable about boats and the sea.
