The US & British Virgin Islands host the widest range of sailing yachts available for charter. From a small 40’ sloop to the ultra luxurious 176’ Perini Navi’s with electric winches, the choice is yours. Sail in easy stages among the string of islands, where you have the freedom to drop the hook at any of a large number of quiet coves. Sail for an hour and stop for a swim, or tack upwind to the other end of the island chain; a sailing yacht charter has it all.
Virgin Islands sailing has Beneteaus, Jenneaus, Palmer Johnsons and Swans as well as custom yachts built by Royal Huisman, Jongert and Abeking and Rasmussen. The layout of the islands in a chain that spreads over 35 miles typically involves upwind and downwind sailing. Tradewinds are usual in the islands and provide a steady 10 to 15 mph breeze from the east year round.
Sailing catamarans, like the Lagoons, Fontaine Pajots, Voyage, Sunreefs Catanas, have grwon enormously in popularity as the are such a great platform to enjoy a Caribbean charter. Because the island are laid out close together, the sailing is protected with calmer seas than found in other parts of the Caribbean. Plenty of natural harbours bless these islands with lots of quite anchorages with beachs and reefs for snorkeling.
The Virgins were where yacht charters really developed and offer the widest array of yachts at the best prices in the world. Yacht crews really know how to please and tailor menus to your tastes and are able to restock with many of your favorite items which is not always possible in other places.
Charter rates are normally quoted for a 7 night week and are most often quoted inclusively per person for the week. This means that once you arrive you can sit back and relax — other than an occasional cocktail ashore when you decide to go dancing and the customary gratuity for the crew (10-15% of charter fee), you can put your wallet away.
Take the helm, trim the sails, there is always a little something to do when on a sailboat. Not so much that you would call it ‘work’, just enough to make that icy cold sundowner drink feel like a well deserved treat at the end of the day!
