The Grenadines, or Windward Islands, are located in the lower Caribbean and consist of the two countries, St. Vincent & the Grenadines and Grenada. This unspoiled chain of islands is spread out over approximately 65 miles, and boasts a number of power yachts that will cruise from December through April and a smaller number of motor yachts available during the summer months. With almost a dozen smaller islands to visit, as well as the large islands of St. Vincent and Grenada, there is plenty to see and do aboard your well traveled luxurious power yacht – hang out in Basil’s on Mystique or the Frangipani on Bequia with lots of sunning and snorkeling in between. There are a smaller number of motor yachts that will be available, primarily during the winter months. New marinas in St. Vincent and Grenada make them the jumping off point for your power yachts charter with their larger airports, although some clients prefer to begin mid island chain by taking a smaller ‘island hopper’ to Union or Canaoun Islands. Mega yachts now make the trek to the Grenadines for the winter season and are available to explore this relaxed, less developed area.
The Tobago Cays are another favorite spot, uninhabited crystal clear water perfect for an afternoon snorkel and beautiful beaches with several anchorages to choose from. There are 3 larger islands that surround the Tobago Cays – Union Island, Mayreau and Canouan. Union Island is the southernmost island in the Grenadines chain with amazing beaches and warm turquoise waters. The smallest inhabited island in the Grenadines is Mayreau. This island has no airstrip so visitors must arrive by boat. Canouan is a beautiful, less commercialized but an up and coming destination island with white sand beaches. Canouan Island is reached by air from North America and Europe via 6 gateways, Barbados, San Juan, Grenada, St. Vincent, Martinique & St. Lucia. Canouan airport also offers private jet services.
Grenada is actually a three island state consisting of Grenada, Carriacou and Petit Martinique. These make up the southern most of the Windward Island chain. Grenada, also known as the Spice Island, features spice farms that produce nutmeg, cocoa, vanilla and cinnamon. Besides its beaches there are tropical rain forests as well as spectacular waterfalls that you can plunge straight into.
