Crew Profiles: Captain Mike and First Mate Adele Watts
Mike and Adele take great pleasure in welcoming you aboard Claudia IV. They have been working together since 1996 and their combined experiences help make them your ideal hosts. After completing two circumnavigations, crewing charter yachts in the Caribbean was the perfect choice for Mike and Adele to share their knowledge and experiences with others.
Captain Watts, a mechanical engineer by education, is an RYA Yachtmaster and Sailing Instructor who has sailed over 100,000 ocean miles in his career. His engineering skills and applied mechanical capabilities, combined with his excellent seamanship, assure the comfort and safety of his guests.
Mike grew up in England and has always had an interest in sports. He was a member of the British National Judo team and a keen squash player. He immigrated to Australia in 1977 where his interest in travel and sport guided him to buy his first boat and learn to sail. His love of the ocean naturally led him to become an avid windsurfer and SCUBA diver. Mike is also a PADI Certified Scuba Instructor and is eager to share his experience and enthusiasm for scuba diving with his guests. His knowledge of sailing and anchorages throughout the Caribbean is unsurpassed. He enjoys tailoring his extensive knowledge of the islands to the individual desires of his charter guests.
Adele has an excellent background in both capacities as first mate and chef. Her experiences on the sea began when her interest in diving resulted in her becoming co-owner/operator of a dive charter company on the Northwest Coast of Canada. More than 20 years of sailing, which included two circumnavigations, make Adele a very competent and capable first mate.
She has successfully served as a professional chef for over four years on charter yachts. Adele’s specialized training at Le Cordon Bleu Culinary Academy of London, adds a touch of elegance to her diverse culinary skills. A graduate of the University of British Columbia with a degree in Education, Adele’s many years of teaching enhance her natural skills in working with people, demonstrated in her ability to provide an enjoyable and relaxing time for all.
