CAPTAIN David Beharrell
Vancouver, CANADA
David’s last position was first officer and dive instructor for the owner aboard M/Y Tatoosh. While aboard Tatoosh he traveled to the South Pacific, Asia, Alaska, the Caribbean and the Mediterranean. David has been a dive instructor for over 15 years and owned his own dive shop in Fiji, where he lived for 7 years. David’s interests include fishing, all water sports and of course diving. David is a valued crewmember of Helios.
FIRST OFFICER Thomas Gurr London, UK
Tommy is now in his second decade in yachting. During this time he has cruised on both sail and motor yachts, for private owners and for charter, such yachts include Enterprise, America, Tatoosh and Shanti. He has had the wonderful opportunity of cruising the Pacific, Mediterranean, Asia, Indian Ocean, Caribbean and the United States. Tommy is keen on all types of water sports, golf and many other outdoor pursuits.
BOSUN John Jones Bendigo, AUSTRALIA
Johnnie has been traveling throughout the world for several years. He spent 2 years on a small sailing yacht in Europe before joining the team on M/Y Helios. His skills in graphics and painting brought him to Helios, where he has helped paint both tenders and jet skis. Johnnie’s interests include all water sports and snow boarding.
DIVE MASTER Simon Hartigan Melbourne, AUSTRALIA
Simon completed his Shipwright Apprenticeship in Brisbane and set off for Germany to build America’s Cup Yachts. He then spent time in Honduras becoming a dive instructor. This lead him to working on M/Y Tatoosh for 5 years as the dive officer. He enjoys snowboarding, tennis and sailing.
DECKHAND Clint Jenkins Melbourne, AUSTRALIA
Previous to joining Helios in 2004; Clint built sail boats in Italy. Clint brings to Helios his exceptional talent for graphics and vehicle restoration which has seen him win numerous awards in Australia. His talented designs can be seen on the Helios tenders and jet skis. Clint’s hobbies include surfing, all water sports, music and travel.
DECKHAND Emmanuel Matalote Mandaue City, PHILIPPINES
“Matt” brings his three years of experiences on M.Y Monkaj to Helios along with his enthusiasm and love of all water sports. As well as being a qualified rescue diver; Matt has a degree in Marine Transportation from the University of Cebu. Matt looks forward to cruising new waters on Helios, especially his backyard of South East Asia.
DECKHAND Grant Raby Melbourne, AUSTRALIA
Grant holds an Electrical Mechanics License and has been in the electrical industry for over a decade. Grant’s love of the ocean and his engineering talents brought him to Helios. Before joining the yachting industry Grant worked in Europe as an electrician before traveling Europe and Asia. Grants interests include water sports, snowboarding and traveling.
CHIEF ENGINEER Per-Erik Kallstrom Stockholm, SWEDEN
Per-Erik first went to sea in 1971 and graduated as a Marine Engineer in 1979. Erik has mainly worked as an engineer on large cruise ships and chemical tankers but has also done several years of land based cabinet making. Per Erik joined Helios in 2005 and his interests include flying single prop aircraft, sailing a 6mR from 1926 and snowboarding.
2nd ENGINEER Brett Jones Durban, SOUTH AFRICA
Brett started working on yachts over five years ago, as a deckhand, after a brief period Brett returned home to study Mechanical Engineering at the Durban Institute of Technology. After completing his course he returned to join M/Y Helios in Barcelona. Brett now enjoys a fulltime position as an engineer on board and hopes to fulfill a rewarding career in this exciting industry. Brett’s hobbies include surfing, chess, stamp collecting and reading adventure novels.
CHEF Stefano Oldano
Milan, ITALY
Stefano, originally from Italy, started his career as a chef 16 years ago. Stefano’s career has taken him to many restaurants in London, one being the Hyde Park Hotel where he furthered his love for cooking. Stefano moved to boats where he was able to combine his love for both cooking and traveling. Stefano has worked on other high profiled boats such as Savarona, Maradome and Little Sis and has been with Helios since her launch, nearly six years ago.
2nd CHEF Alex Mullany Durban, SOUTH AFRICA
Alex has worked in the yachting industry on and off for the last five years. Her previous position was aboard S/Y Shibumi. Alex studied at Christina Martin School of Food and Wine in South Africa where her passion and skill for cooking began. Alex’s talents do not end in the galley, she is a qualified dive master and lifesaver and enjoys surfing, reading and health and fitness in her spare time.
PURSER Herve Actis Antibes, FRANCE
Herve has been in the yachting business since 1989 as Chief Steward/Purser. Some of Herve’s previous yachts include: Destiny, Midnight Saga, Reverie and Kogo on which he has cruised the Mediterranean and Caribbean extensively. Herve speaks French, Italian and English fluently, he has a great sense of humor and loves to meet new people. Over the years Herve has acquired an extensive knowledge of food and wines which he loves to share. Herve’s interests are traveling, snow skiing and water sports.
CHIEF STEWARDESS Antonia Shearer Cheltenham, UK
After graduating with a degree in Environmental Biology from Oxford University, Antonia’s love for traveling and her experience in the hospitality industry led her to join yachting 7 years ago. Antonia previously worked on the busy charter boat, Big Eagle before joining Pegasus in 2002. Antonia’s knowledge and skills saw her promoted to Chief Stewardess as Pegasus transformed into Helios. She enjoys traveling, outdoor activities, snow boarding and reading.
STEWARDESS Sarah Thomas Adelaide, AUSTRALIA
Sarah grew up on the water and her early experience on boats led her to the yachting industry at a young age. Since joining yachting in 2003, Sarah has traveled extensively throughout the Mediterranean, the Caribbean and Mexico on charter yachts, including M/Y Phoenix. Sarah brings a fun loving, enthusiastic and happy approach to Helios. In her spare time, she loves to travel, all water sports and outdoor activites.
STEWARDESS Kari Taplin Minnesota, USA
Kari started traveling after studying in Spain. She has been working on and off yachts for the past 7 years and has gained experience on such high profile yachts as Tatoosh and Octopus. Her interests include snowboarding, tennis and studying natural health.
STEWARDESS Marjorie Bello Davao, PHILIPPINES
Gi-Gi, as Marjorie is affectionately known, has been a part of the Helios crew for over 2 years. Previously, she has worked on board local passenger ships as a front desk officer and has spent 4 months on board M/Y Silver Shalis as a stewardess. Gi-Gi has a degree of B.S. Hotel and Restaurant Management. Her interests include fashion, shopping, traveling, and baking.
